Yes, I had to look up the name, I had no idea where it is. Kings Caple. It’s in Herefordshire. And in fact, is a village in the largest loop of the river Wye between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye. (Yes, we don’t just have monkey trivia here!)
And home to two lovely monkeys. Found by a contact of Agent Jeff’s, these are from a secret agent in Kings Caple. First we have HR35. A lovely big tree, a female.
And nearby, here’s a little youngster, perhaps influenced by the big one? I always like to think of new monkey puzzle trees being the result of someone seeing a larger, mature tree, and thinking, ‘Oh, I like that, I think I’ll plant my own!’ And, as gardeners when we do that we hope we will be around to see ‘our’ plant flourish and grow up, but we also know that we might not; so I always think of planting something that takes a long time to mature to be a very special sort of looking forward. Here’s HR36, just getting going – maybe about six or seven years old.
So thanks to our secret agent in Kings Caple. And good work on the ever growing HR catalogue.
